What Brought you to Relentless Fitness?
My journey to Relentless Fitness certainly wasn’t a straightforward one!
I’m not a career athlete, although I certainly dreamed of being one. Sadly, it wasn’t in the cards and my aspirations of being Steve Nash ended just like Woody Harrelson’s in White Men Can’t Jump. My adolescence was spent as a slightly chubby kid who was self-conscious about taking his shirt off at the pool.
While pursuing a degree and career in business and finance, I received an informal education in exercise and nutrition. I realized for the first time that I could change my body. This was as important to me as the invention of the Internet. Over time my passion for physical transformation grew, and I eventually left my Wall Street career in 2007 to pursue greener pastures. It was a youthful, naïve, and likely stupid decision, but somehow these things have a way of working out.
I began a personal training career at Society Hill PSC in 2008 and launched Relentless Fitness (version 1.0) as a home-to-home and outdoor training company in 2009.
My partner Marissa and I created Relentless Fitness as you know it today together in 2010, merging our adult and kid programs. Over the past 5 years we’ve grown, our team (more like family) has grown, and our community (more like extended family) has exploded. I’m proud of the past and even more excited to create our relentless future.
What Does Fitness mean to you?
It means empowerment. It means that regardless of where you stand today, you have the ability to create a different (and better) tomorrow.
Fitness is a vehicle to physical transformation and a means to stand taller, feel better, and perform in a way you never thought possible. It’s a way of life, and if you approach it relentlessly, you’ll be rewarded tenfold.
Hobbies outside of training:
Everything begins with my morning cup of coffee. It is the only thing in this world that I am a snob about. I get quality beans (Rival Bros Revolver is my current favorite), I grind them fresh, and I’m in constant pursuit of the perfect preparation method (French Press is my current method). And I take it black. You should too, dammit!
I read and I write, although I love the former and hate the latter. I play poker from time to time. I have a strange habit of finding those old-school carnival basketball machines, and when I find one I won’t stop until I break the current record. My favorite music will probably surprise you – go ahead and look up "In Flames and Killswitch Engage." Spending time outdoors in any capacity — walking, hiking, sports (wiffle-ball in Washington Square, anyone?) — is a go-to. I also value shut-down time and generally spend it with Riss and Wylie “The Coyote” (our dog).
I’m an ACE Certified Personal Trainer and was an ACE Lifestyle and Weight Management Consultant as well. My unique style-blend leverages my business and finance degree heavily. I’m logical, I like to deconstruct and solve problems, and I treat every physical transformation case as its own. You are unique and your approach, plan, and execution should be, too.
I value my informal education more than anything. I read, digest, and apply a massive amount of material each and every day. Growth and personal development are mission-critical.
What would you say to a person who’s thinking about training with you?
Bring it. Bring you, a generally positive outlook, and a generally open mindset, and we will accomplish great things. If you have the courage to walk through this relentless door, we’ll do the rest together. It’ll be worth it.
